Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) should be called Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), which belongs to the category of “Dirty Mania (upset and depressed, sadness and wanting to cry for no reason)” in Chinese medicine, and mainly adopts the method of diagnosis and treatment to achieve the effect of adjuvant treatment. 1. Heart and Liver Fire Exuberance Certificate: symptoms include hyperactivity and restlessness, impatience and irritability, lack of concentration, irritability, constipation, yellow urine, red tongue, thin yellow moss, and number of strings on the pulse. Treatment should clear the heart and calm the liver, and stabilize the spirit. The formula selects An Shen Ding Zhi Wan with additional subtraction. The contraindication of this product is not clear. 2. Phlegm-fire internal disturbance (the body is disturbed by phlegm and fire): hyperactivity, restlessness, lack of concentration, irritable heat in the chest (irritable and stuffy heat), little appetite and bitterness in the mouth, red tongue, yellowish moss and slippery pulse. Treatment is to clear away heat and fire (removing heat and fire from the body) and dissolve phlegm. Huang Lian Wen Bile Tang plus subtractions is chosen for treatment. The contraindication of this product is not clear. 3. Deficiency of Heart and Spleen (weakness of the heart and spleen): symptoms include lack of concentration, fatigue (mental exhaustion and physical weakness), little appetite, colorless face, pale tongue with thin white moss, and weak and feeble pulse. Treatment should nourish the heart and tranquilize the mind (stabilize the mind by nourishing the heart), strengthen the spleen and benefit the qi. The formulae used are Gui Spleen Tang and Gan Mai Da Zao Tang plus subtractions. Ganmai Dazao Tang should not be used in epilepsy with phlegm-fire internalization. If Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is present, one should consult the clinician as early as possible and take medication as prescribed by the doctor.
