How does viral meningitis develop?

The meninges can be simply understood as a layer of skin on the surface of the brain. Meningitis is an inflammatory reaction that occurs when the meninges are infected by pathogens such as bacteria and viruses. Thus, viral meningitis is a type of disease in which viruses enter the bloodstream, producing a viraemia that invades the meninges via the choroid plexus and then causes inflammatory changes in the meninges.
