“Fire” is a folk saying, in traditional Chinese medicine, it belongs to the range of heat evidence, including stomach fire, liver fire and other evidence of hyperactivity. Poria, Gui Zhi, Atractylodes Macrocephalae and Radix et Rhizoma Glycyrrhizae are normally taken in accordance with the doctor’s instructions and generally do not lead to heat, but if they are taken for a long period of time in excessive amounts, heat may occur, such as the emergence of related symptoms can be identified by taking Bai Hu Tang, Huang Lian Xie Du Tang and so on.
Poria, Gui Zhi, Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae and Radix et Rhizoma Glycyrrhizae are combined to form Poria, Gui Zhi, Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae and Radix et Rhizoma Glycyrrhizae Soup, which is known for its effects of warming yang and resolving fluid metabolism (warming the yang qi in the body to promote water metabolism), strengthening the spleen and inducing diuresis. It is often used in the treatment of phlegm-drinking (pathological products formed as a result of impaired water-liquid metabolism) associated with yang deficiency in the middle Jiao. Symptoms include fullness in the chest and ribs, dizziness, palpitation, shortness of breath and cough.
This formula is not suitable for those who cough up sticky phlegm due to the transformation of heat by drinking. As this formula has the effect of warming the yang, if it is taken in excess for a long period of time, or if it is taken by those who have heat in their bodies, heat-related symptoms may occur. If heat syndrome occurs, it can be treated with Bai Hu Tang and Huang Lian Xie Du Tang under the guidance of a physician.
Bai Hu Tang has the effect of clearing heat and promoting generation of body fluid, and is often used in the treatment of strong heat and face redness, irritability, thirst, sweating, etc., caused by heatiness of the qi. Huanglian Xieyu Tang has the efficacy of diarrhea and detoxification, and is often used in the treatment of Sanjiao Fire Toxicity Symptom, which is characterized by fever, irritability, dry mouth and pharynx, insomnia; or vomiting blood, bleeding from the nose, and yellowish-red urine.
