What are the signs of luteal insufficiency

Luteal insufficiency is mainly characterized by short menstrual cycle, bleeding during ovulation, infertility and easy miscarriage, etc. Patients need to seek medical treatment promptly. As a result of luteal insufficiency, the patient’s menstrual cycle will usually be shortened and there will be drenching vaginal bleeding before menstruation for about a week before menstruation. Ovulatory bleeding may occur in a few patients. In addition, due to luteal insufficiency, the patient’s uterine function is not well developed which may lead to infertility and easy miscarriage. Patients with these symptoms need to seek medical attention for progesterone tests (blood progesterone levels measured between 18 and 28 days after menstruation); ovulation tests (ovulation occurs about 14 days before the next menstrual period); and histologic examination of the endometrium (on the 26th day of the menstrual cycle). After the diagnosis is confirmed patients need to be treated with drugs such as progesterone (oral or intramuscular) under the supervision of a doctor. It should be noted that the drug is contraindicated for those who are allergic to the drug, and the duration of use and discontinuation of the drug should be in accordance with the doctor’s instructions.
