It is relatively normal for newborns to have 1-6 stools per day. It is important to note that if the stools are more frequent, 5-6 or even 7-8, but the amount of stools is not large and the stools are not particularly thin, and there are no abnormalities in the child’s growth status, spirit, feeding, or urination, consider physiological diarrhea, which does not require treatment. If the stools are frequent, slightly dilute, and the child has more active bowel sounds, you should also consider allergic enteritis or feeding intolerance. In case of breastfeeding, the mother needs to avoid food such as fish, shrimp, milk, and protein-based things. Newborns can be replaced with amino acid formula or deeply hydrolyzed formula to reduce allergic reactions. In addition, if the stools are frequent and thin, the child’s weight gain is unsatisfactory, or accompanied by fever and poor spirits, it is recommended to visit the neonatal unit to identify the cause.
