Usually there are the following treatments for plaque in the neck vessels, mainly through medication as well as stenting or even a vessel replacement. However, due to the development of interventional techniques nowadays, medication or stenting is usually the treatment of choice. If the plaque area is larger than 75% or 50% of the lumen area, it is recommended to put a stent to open the whole blood vessel, and after that, we can take aspirin and atorvastatin to control the re-growth of plaque and the risk of thrombosis in the stent. If the plaque area is less than 50% or less, medication is recommended to eliminate the plaque, and the main drugs that can eliminate the plaque are two drugs, aspirin and atorvastatin. So, there are two treatments for plaque in the neck vessels: first, medication; second, stenting. It depends on the size of the plaque, and the size of the lumen area occupied by the plaque.
