Is appendix cancer serious or not?

Whether appendix cancer is serious or not needs to be evaluated according to the patient’s pathological staging and grading. Appendix cancer of different stages and grading has different treatment difficulties and different prognostic impacts on patients. 1. Appendiceal carcinoid tumor: if the tumor is very small, within 1cm, appendiceal resection can be cured, and patients can survive for a long time; if the tumor size is more than 2cm, radical right hemicolectomy is needed, and most of the patients can survive for a long time after the operation. 2. Adenocarcinoma of appendix: it is easy to have lymph node metastasis and distant metastasis, even abdominal metastasis. When tumor metastasis occurs, the tumor has already developed to advanced stage, which has obvious impact on patients’ survival time, and the treatment is more difficult, requiring comprehensive treatment with surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and so on. In addition, the severity of different stages of appendix is also different. Generally speaking, early appendix cancer is less difficult to treat than middle and late appendix cancer, and has relatively less impact on patient’s healing. Whether appendix cancer is serious or not requires timely medical treatment, comprehensive assessment of the condition, and no generalization can be made. It is recommended that patients should be diagnosed and treated as early as possible in order to avoid progression of the condition.
