Ox Knee is generally harmless when applied after identification and compounding, and there have been no reports of serious adverse reactions after taking Ox Knee. Ox Knee, with flat nature, sweet, bitter and sour taste, enters the liver and kidney meridians, has the effects of strengthening the muscles and bones, tonifying the liver and kidney, activating blood circulation and promoting menstruation, inducing the blood to flow downward (promoting the blood to run downward), and inducing diuresis and gonorrhea (improving the problem of dribbling urine, and the problem of small and incomprehensible amount of urine). It is used in the treatment of dysmenorrhea, menorrhagia, dysmenorrhea caused by blood stasis and obstruction, dyspareunia (the placenta cannot be delivered after a long time after the fetus has been delivered), bruises and injuries, weakness of muscles and bones, pain and soreness of the waist and knees, dysuria (inability to urinate), oedema, gonorrhea (increased frequency of urination, astringent pain in urination), toothache, epistaxis, vomiting of blood, headache, mouth sores, vertigo, and other conditions. Since this drug reduces ejaculation and activates blood circulation, it should be avoided in cases of diarrhea due to deficiency of the spleen, subsidence of the middle qi (deficiency of the spleen and stomach qi, with manifestations such as falling of the internal organs), slippery spermatozoa in dreams, lack of solidity of the lower element (deficiency of kidney qi leading to spermatorrhea, premature ejaculation, and enuresis), excessive menstruation, and in cases of pregnant women. Chinese medicine, if used incorrectly, may cause discomfort, which is not a harmful effect of Chinese medicine. Therefore, medicines should be applied after identification by a Chinese medicine practitioner, and should not be taken blindly on one’s own.
