What does Sheen syndrome mean?

Sheen syndrome, usually induced by postpartum hemorrhage, is a series of syndromes caused by ischemic necrosis of a group of pituitary cells following resuscitation from hemorrhagic shock. Patients may experience menstrual changes, absence of menstrual periods and amenorrhea, absence of lactation after delivery, severe hair loss, markedly diminished sexual function, postpartum decline of secondary sexual characteristics, atrophy of reproductive organs, and other menopause-like symptoms. At the same time, the function of adrenal gland and thyroid gland will be changed in different degrees. Patients experience coldness, drowsiness, mental depression, lower blood pressure, lower blood sugar, and all metabolic rates are in a state of decline.
