When to take Glimepiride tablets

Glimepiride tablets are a very commonly used class of glucose-lowering drugs, moderately priced and often used in combination with metformin, acarbose and other glucose-lowering drugs for the treatment of type 2 diabetes with some islet function. Generally, it is taken in small doses once a day before breakfast, and the dose is increased and combined after 1-2 weeks according to the fasting and postprandial blood glucose levels. Glimepiride tablets are second-generation sulfonylurea oral hypoglycemic agents. The hypoglycemic effect is mainly to stimulate the secretion of insulin by the beta cells of the pancreatic islets, and partly to improve the sensitivity of the surrounding tissues to insulin. The side effect of Glimepiride tablets is mainly hypoglycemia. It is generally recommended to start with a small dose, 1 dose 10 minutes before breakfast, and the dose can be gradually increased according to the blood sugar situation. It should be noted that if patients do not eat staple foods and only consume vegetables and meat, glimepiride is not recommended to prevent the occurrence of hypoglycemia.
