In traditional Chinese medicine, Jun, Cheng, Zuo and Zhu are the basic principles for the composition of a formula, which has a certain pattern, that is, the cooperation of Jun, Cheng, Zuo and Zhu.
Jun refers to the drug that plays the main role in treating the main evidence in the formula, and one or several flavors can be used according to the need. The minister is the drug that assists the main drug or strengthens the efficacy of the main drug. The adjuvant is the drug that assists the main drug in treating concurrent symptoms or suppressing the toxicity and potency of the main drug, or the counter-adjuvant drug. Enabling is to guide each medicine to the lesion or to harmonize the effects of each medicine.
For example, Ephedra Tang is a formula for treating the symptom of typhoid fever (a disease in which fever is caused by feeling cold), in which ephedra is the principal medicine, which sweats and relieves the symptoms of the disease; gui zhi is the subject medicine, which assists ephedra in relieving the symptoms of the disease; apricot kernel is the adjuvant, which assists ephedra in relieving the symptoms of the disease; and glycyrrhiza glabra is the envoy, which harmonizes all the medicines (regulating the properties of different Chinese medicines).
For specialized medical problems, it is advisable to consult a doctor.
