Microtia affects children in three ways: cosmetic defects (obvious deformity of the auricle), deafness (deformity of the external auditory canal and middle ear), and psychological developmental anomalies (low self-esteem, incomplete self-cognition). Among these three aspects, cosmetic defects have long been emphasized by parents, and deafness has also attracted the attention of more and more parents, but the impact of microtia on the child’s psychology and personality is not only poorly understood by parents, but also insufficiently paid attention to in clinical medicine. Therefore, parents need to have the concept that microtia affects their children’s appearance, hearing and psychology. Then, the treatment and rehabilitation of the child, in addition to auricular reconstruction and hearing restoration, should also include psychological intervention for children.
