If a postpartum laceration is not stitched up, you should seek medical attention. If it is infected, it should be cleaned and sterilized and then stitched up again, depending on the doctor’s instructions. For mild lacerations, stitches are usually not needed. If the laceration injures the anal sphincter, or injures the rectal mucosa, sutures must be applied. If the wound is not closed after suturing, it is mainly due to low tension of the suture, or local infection. If the wound is seriously torn, it usually needs to be cleaned and sutured again. If it is not serious, the wound can be sterilized with povidone every day, keep the wound dry and clean, strengthen nutrition and ensure a good lifestyle, and the wound will usually heal gradually. Mothers are advised to cooperate with the midwife in pushing during labor to minimize perineal tearing. If there is any subsequent discomfort, consult a medical professional.
