Anoscopy is a simple but very important test in which a doctor uses his or her finger, usually the index finger, to insert into the patient’s anus to check for disease. An accurate anorectal examination can give a general idea of the presence and nature of lesions in the anorectum within 7cm-10cm from the anal verge. When performing anorectal examination, first explain the significance and necessity of anorectal examination to the patient, then obtain the patient’s understanding and consent, and prepare items for the anorectal examination, such as paraffin oil, disposable gloves, toilet paper, etc. Then ask the patient to assume a good position, usually in the chest and knee position or in the truncal and lateral positions, first observe whether there are any abnormalities around the patient’s anus, such as anal fissures, hemorrhoids, eczema formation, then lubricate the finger, easily massage the anal sphincter to relax it, then gently insert the index finger into the patient’s anus and perform a full range of finger diagnosis, after the examination is completed, pack the items and withdraw the finger sleeve, it is necessary to observe whether the finger sleeve is blood-stained. The examination should be done gently and without violence.
