Treatment of obsolete ankle sprains

Treatment of old ankle sprains includes non-surgical and surgical treatments. 1. Non-surgical treatment (1) When the ankle shows swelling and pain, etc., short-term immobilization, rest and ice packs can be applied to reduce swelling. (2) Early rehabilitation training, including movement exercises, isometric strengthening training and balance training, etc., to avoid causing joint stiffness. (3) Strengthen functional training and advance the above training to normal life and work intensity, during which ankle taping or bracing may be required. 2. Surgical treatment: Most of the old ankle sprains can be improved by non-surgical treatments. If the patient has non-surgical treatments that do not work, persistent ankle instability and pain, cartilage damage in the ankle joint or tendon rupture, it is recommended to go through surgical treatments. Common surgical procedures include arthroscopy and ligament or tendon reconstruction. If a patient develops symptoms such as swelling and pain in the ankle, he or she should seek medical attention to clarify the cause of the condition and undergo treatment under the guidance of a physician.
