What is Tomoxetine for?

Tomoxetine is mainly used for the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, but also has antidepressant and anxiolytic effects. The pharmacological mechanism of tomoxetine is to selectively inhibit presynaptic transport of norepinephrine and enhance brain norepinephrine function, thereby improving the symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and indirectly promoting cognitive completion and attentional focus. There is little affinity for other neurotransmitter receptors (e.g., cholinergic, histamine, dopamine, 5-hydroxytryptamine, and alpha-adrenergic receptors).
