Otolithiasis is a condition that causes transient vertigo accompanied by nystagmus. It is not possible to generalize about how long it takes for an attack to resolve, but studies have reported that 75% of patients resolve within 5-42 days. Although otolithiasis is a self-limiting disease with a tendency to heal itself, with 75% of patients recovering within 5-42 days, there is no exact figure for how many days an attack of otolithiasis lasts, as the duration of the disease may last only a few hours in some patients, or several months or years in others. For patients with severe otolithiasis, prolonged episodes of the disease may cause them to be unable to work or even lose the ability to take care of themselves; therefore, individuals suffering from otolithiasis should intervene as soon as possible in accordance with their condition and in cooperation with their doctors.
