Do end-stage renal disease and uremia mean the same thing?

End-stage renal disease and uremia are the same meaning, mainly refers to patients with renal disease whose blood creatinine is greater than 707μmol/L and glomerular filtration rate is less than 15ml/min. Uremia can have no typical clinical symptoms in the early stage, or patients only show atypical symptoms such as poor appetite, nausea, vomiting, etc. Some patients may show volume, acid-base, electrolyte disorders, accompanied by functional abnormalities of various systems of the body. The treatment of uremia is mainly based on drugs combined with dialysis, and dialysis can be divided into hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. Hemodialysis is mainly through the convection, diffusion, adsorption and other functions of the dialyzer to achieve the effect of removing toxins and excess water, while peritoneal dialysis is through the peritoneal membrane’s semi-permeable membrane function to achieve the effect of removing toxins and water.
