Squamous cell carcinoma of the hypopharynx is a malignant tumor that occurs in the laryngopharynx with the pathologic type of squamous cell carcinoma.
Among primary laryngopharyngeal malignant tumors, most of them are squamous cell carcinoma. Squamous cell carcinoma of hypopharynx is mostly related to smoking, alcohol consumption, ionizing radiation, etc. Clinically, it mainly manifests as foreign body sensation in laryngopharynx, pain in swallowing and progressive dysphagia, and hoarseness can be caused by the involvement of tumor in vocal cord, and it can lead to cough or choking due to the oedema of laryngopharyngeal tissues or the blockage of tumor, and it may be aspirated when swallowing, which may lead to aspiration pneumonia in serious cases. Pathologic examination is the basis for diagnosis.
Once found pharyngeal lesions, should be timely pathologic biopsy, early treatment.
