Does it matter if a thyroid nodule comes back after surgery?

Whether or not it matters if a thyroid nodule recurs after surgery needs to be determined by the nature of the nodule; if it is benign, it does not matter, and if it is malignant, it is more important. Thyroid nodules may recur after surgery, but this cannot be used to determine whether it is important or not; pathologic testing is required. If the nodule is benign, it is relatively unimportant. If the nodule grows too fast and the pathology test indicates malignancy, then it is more important, and it needs to be removed by surgery and the surrounding lymph nodes need to be cleared, and after the surgery, it should be treated with iodine 131 and chemotherapy (e.g., cisplatin, fluorouracil, etc.). If the patient has a recurrence of thyroid nodules after surgery, it is recommended to consult a doctor to determine the severity of the disease and follow the doctor’s instructions.
