Liver and stomach qi stagnation is a Chinese medicine term, refers to the liver loss of drainage (abnormal function of liver drainage), stomach loss and descent (the stomach’s ventilation and descent of the function of the obstacle) manifestation of the evidence to the hypochondrium, stomach and epigastric distension and pain, belching (hiccups) and eructation (hiccups) as the main manifestation. Liver and stomach qi stagnation evidence is also known as liver and stomach disharmony (liver and stomach function of the ascending and descending disharmony) evidence, Chinese medicine believes that the liver is the main ascending, the stomach is the main descending, and the two work closely together to coordinate the balance of the qi lifting and lowering. When liver qi is not comfortable and stomach qi is out of balance, it will become Liver-Stomach disharmony syndrome. Liver depression turns into fire (liver qi is blocked, resulting in the production of fire and heat), and transverse attack on the stomach (liver qi is not smooth, resulting in infringement of the stomach’s function), leading to stagnation of liver and stomach qi, resulting in distension of the epigastrium and pain in the epigastrium and coeliac region. The stomach is out of harmony (obstruction of the stomach’s function of ventilation and descending), and the qi is upwardly reversed, so belching, eructation; the liver and stomach qi and fire are internally depressed, which can be seen as cacophony (the stomach has a feeling similar to hunger, emptiness with burning), and swallowing of acid (swallowing of acid that is upwardly rushed to the oropharynx in the stomach). Clinical manifestations of liver and stomach qi stagnation include distension and pain in the hypochondrium and the stomach and epigastric region, belching, hiccups, discomfort in the stomach and epigastric region, and swallowing of acid in the mouth, etc. The symptoms should be consulted in time, and the individual should not diagnose or medicate on his/her own.
