What’s a Cornucopia?



Cornus officinalis, is a plant in the Cornus order, Cornaceae family, and Cornus genus. There are Cornus officinalis and Cornus officinalis, both of which are commonly used in Chinese medicine.

1. Cornus officinalis: sour taste, astringent, slightly warm nature, attributed to the liver, kidney meridian. It has the effect of tonifying the liver and kidney, astringent and solidifying astringency (astringent consolidation). It can be used to treat lumbar and knee soreness and weakness (a feeling of soreness and weakness in the waist and knees) caused by deficiency of the liver and kidneys (weakness of the functions of the liver and kidneys), headache and dizziness, tinnitus and deafness, impotence, spermatorrhea, enuresis, and profuse sweating.

2. Cornus officinalis: pungent, bitter, hot, poisonous, attributed to the liver, spleen, stomach, kidney meridian. It can be used to treat abdominal pain and headache caused by cold evils, as well as vomiting, belching (hiccups), acid reflux and diarrhea.

Note that Wu Zhu is contraindicated in cases of Yin deficiency with heat. This product is toxic and caution should be exercised when taken internally.
