Angelica and hawthorn in water have the effect of invigorating blood circulation and removing blood stasis, and can be used for the adjunctive treatment of chest tightness, chest pain, stomach pain or hernia with partial distension and pain caused by stagnation of qi and blood stasis, and also for the adjunctive treatment of women with stagnant menstrual disorders, dark menstrual blood or bruised blood clots, amenorrhea and dysmenorrhea, and for patients with hypertension, coronary heart disease and hyperlipidemia. Since hawthorn has the effect of eliminating stagnation and angelica has the effect of nourishing qi and blood and activating blood stasis, it is also used as an adjunctive treatment for abdominal distension, belching, acid reflux, abdominal pain and diarrhea caused by dietary stagnation and qi stagnation and blood stasis. Because of its sour and astringent nature, hawthorn may increase the burden on the gastrointestinal tract and cause indigestion in patients with a weak spleen and stomach or those with excessive stomach acidity.
