Measurement of jaundice in newborns is often done through neonatal jaundice meters and blood tests, both of which should be done under the supervision of a medical professional.
Measuring jaundice in newborns consists of two methods:
The first one is neonatal jaundice meter to detect transcutaneous bilirubin, often measuring the sternum, forehead (brow), cheeks, shoulder blades and other parts of the body, different brands of jaundice meter should not be mixed to prevent the impact of monitoring values.
The second method is serum total bilirubin measurement, which belongs to the gold standard and has the advantages of high accuracy and few interfering factors.
Both of the above methods should be operated under the guidance of professional doctors.
Neonatal jaundice includes physiological jaundice and pathologic jaundice, pathologic jaundice appears early, progresses quickly, subsides late, and requires timely treatment, generally normal bilirubin should be below 12mg/dl.
