What to do if your newborn’s eyes are yellow with jaundice

Newborn jaundice with yellow eyes should be judged according to the specific classification of jaundice, which can usually be treated by natural subsiding, jaundice-reducing drugs, blue light phototherapy and other methods.
1. Physiological jaundice: Newborn jaundice with yellow eyes may be caused by physiological jaundice. Physiological jaundice usually has a low jaundice value, and physiological jaundice can subside by itself within 2 weeks at the latest, without special treatment.
2. Pathological jaundice: caused by various pathological factors, such as neonatal hepatitis, etc. It needs timely treatment.
(1) Blue light phototherapy: let the newborn lie in the phototherapy box, cover both eyes and genital organs, and leave the rest of the body bare. Then irradiate with blue light to reduce jaundice.
(2) Drug therapy: including supplying albumin, correcting metabolic acidosis, giving liver enzyme inducer, phenobarbital, and using immunoglobulin intravenously.
(3) Blood replacement therapy: replace free antibodies and sensitized red blood cells in part of the blood to reduce hemolysis; replace a large amount of bilirubin in the blood to prevent the occurrence of bilirubin encephalopathy; correct anemia, improve oxygen-carrying capacity, and prevent heart failure.
All of the above medications should be used under the guidance of a doctor. If the yellowing of the eyes in neonatal jaundice is not relieved, or is accompanied by other symptoms, you should go to the hospital in time for treatment.
