Newborn jaundice index of more than 10 mg/dL, most of the normal belongs to the physiological jaundice; but if the duration is too long or jaundice recedes and reappears, etc. suggests that pathological jaundice, is not normal.
1. physiological jaundice: physiological jaundice is generally normal newborn jaundice index is less than 12mg/dL, and the general condition is good, full-term babies more than 2~3 days after birth, within two weeks to subside, this is normal.
2. Pathological jaundice: the jaundice index of newborns is more than 10 mg/dL, but if any of the following conditions occur, pathological jaundice should be considered. Jaundice appears within 24 hours after birth; it lasts too long, more than two weeks in full-term infants; jaundice recedes and reappears. This is abnormal and prompt intervention should be made at this time to prevent the development of bilirubin brain damage.
Newborns suspected of possible pathologic jaundice should be admitted to the hospital in a timely manner to complete the relevant examinations and be treated under the guidance of the doctor.
