The time of onset of labor may vary from one person to another. For those who are sensitive to the medication, the onset of labor may occur within 10 hours after the medication is inserted, but for those who are not sensitive to the medication, the onset of labor may occur 1-2 days after the onset of labor, or even for those who are not sensitive to the medication at all, resulting in failure to induce labor. If the induction of labor does not occur after 72 hours or more, it is considered a failure to induce labor and a cesarean section may be required to terminate the pregnancy.
