Gastric lavage operation includes the steps of assessment, preparation, operation and record.
1. Assessment: Before gastric lavage, the patient’s condition, consciousness, skin and mucous membrane of the mouth and nose should be understood.
2. Preparation: Gloves, mask and gastric lavage solution should be well prepared before operation.
3. Operation: Firstly, make the patient take the left side lying position, with a tarpaulin in front of the chest, and the curved disk placed at the corner of the patient’s mouth. Secondly, measure the length of the gastric tube, apply paraffin oil to the front end of the sterilized gastric tube, pinch the gastric tube with gauze in the left hand, wrap the gastric tube with gauze in the right hand at a distance of 5-6cm, and insert it slowly from the nasal cavity or the oral cavity.
In addition, put the end of the catheter into a bowl of cooled boiled water or saline to see if there are any bubbles overflow. Finally, connect the gastric lavage machine, press the start button for automatic gastric rinsing, and repeat the rinsing until the washed out liquid is clarified.
4. Record: After completion of gastric lavage, review the abdominal condition, reflex the gastric tube and pull it out to prevent the liquid in the tube from accidentally entering the trachea, and record the lavage situation and changes in condition.
Gastric lavage machine operation should be carried out under the guidance of medical personnel.
