There is no clinical saying that “three kinds of people should not take Cistanchis”, but Cistanchis should be used according to one’s own health condition. As a kind of Chinese medicine, Cistanchis is effective in tonifying kidney yang, benefiting essence and blood, and laxative. For those who suffer from yin deficiency and fire (deficiency of yin and essence in the body, resulting in hyperactive fire), loose stools, diarrhea and constipation, it is not advisable to consume Cistanchis to prevent aggravation of the condition, which may affect the recovery of the body. Therefore, it is not true that three kinds of people should not eat Cistanchis, so avoid blindly believing in it. Clinically, Cistanchis is commonly used in treating conditions such as lumbar and knee soreness (the feeling of soreness and weakness in the lumbar and knee areas) and mental depression caused by deficiency of kidney yang and insufficient essence and blood, as well as treating intestinal dryness and constipation. Usually Cistanchis can be combined with Lock-Yang, Cornu Cervi Pantotrichum, Cortex Eucommiae and Cuscuta Cuscuta to achieve the desired toning effect. During the application of traditional Chinese medicine, attention should be paid to the rationality of diet, avoiding the intake of spicy and stimulating food, in order to prevent the efficacy of proprietary Chinese medicines from being affected. Patients are advised to follow the doctor’s instructions in treating the symptoms and should not use Cistanchis or increase or decrease the dosage of Cistanchis at will. If discomfort occurs after using the medicine, stop using it and seek medical advice.
