Tendonitis of the thumb can result in trigger finger of the thumb or popping of the thumb during movement, mainly due to tendon and tendon sheath hyperplasia that causes the tendon to snap or strangle during the tendon sheath sliding process. This condition can be treated with early closure therapy by injecting medications or hormones into the tendon to promote the absorption of inflammation. In addition, hormone injections and medications should not be used frequently because they can easily cause tendon rupture. Invasive treatment, such as minimally invasive needle knife release, can relieve the inflammation of the tendon sheath, or a minor surgery can be performed to remove a portion of the problematic tendon sheath to relieve tendinitis.
