Fasting is required within 24 -48 h after gastrointestinal surgery, and the intestinal function is restored within 48 -72 h. After the anal venting, food is eaten according to medical advice. The principle of diet is: from less to more, from thin to thick, from simple to varied, progressive, less food and more meals. Generally, it is a gradual transition from clear liquid – liquid – semi-liquid food with less residue – soft food with less oil – general food, and observe whether there is bloating, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, etc., and make timely dietary adjustment. If there is no discomfort, you can eat liquid food: such as rice soup, vegetable soup, fish soup, lotus root soup, egg soup, juice without residue, vegetable juice, etc. The amount of food starts from 20-30 ml each time and gradually increases to 100-150 ml each time, with 5-6 meals per day; after 2-3 days, you can change to semi-liquid food with less residue: such as rice porridge, steamed egg paste, vegetable paste, fruit puree, minced meat, soft noodles, etc. After 2-3 days (i.e., 7-10 days after surgery), you can transition to soft food, such as rotten rice, bread, cookies, bananas, oranges, etc., 3-4 times a day. The transition to a normal diet can be made gradually about one month after surgery. Generally, the intake of milk, soy milk, onion, sweets and other easily flatulent foods and stimulating foods is prohibited within 1 week after surgery; within 1 month after surgery, especially within 2 weeks after surgery, the intake of foods containing coarse cellulose, such as celery, cabbage, parsley, garlic, leek, toon, asparagus, hairy bamboo shoots, pineapple, etc., is restricted to reduce the number of stools and the abrasion of undigested coarse fibers on the anastomosis of the gastrointestinal tract.
