Costochondritis is categorized into non-specific costochondritis and septic costochondritis, the treatment focuses on relieving pain, and the treatment methods include medication and surgery.
1. Non-specific costochondritis: Generally, the treatment is based on the symptoms, the common symptoms include rib pain, rib cartilage pain, etc. Usually, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen and naproxen are used to reduce inflammation and analgesia, and the use of glucocorticoid injections and acetaminophen to reduce the aseptic inflammation.
2. Septic costochondritis: Septic costochondritis requires the use of penicillin, cephalosporin antibiotics to control the infection, as well as the use of ibuprofen and naproxen to relieve pain when the pain is severe, and if there is a confined focus of infection, in order to prevent aggravation of the condition in later stages, the costochondral bone needs to be surgically removed to remove the focus of infection.
When symptoms such as rib pain occur, it is recommended that the patient consult a doctor in a timely manner to clarify the type of costochondritis and take appropriate treatment programs under the guidance of the doctor.
