Does amoxicillin work for meniscus wear and tear in the knee?

Taking amoxicillin for knee meniscus wear usually doesn’t work.

Most knee meniscus wear is caused by sprains or cumulative damage from prolonged weight bearing on the knee. Typical symptoms are pain, swelling and joint popping. Medication mainly includes anti-inflammatory and analgesic such as ibuprofen and diclofenac, nutritive cartilage drugs such as glucosamine and aminoglycosyl chondroitin, etc. Nutritive lubricants such as sodium vitreous acid can also be used for joint cavity puncture.

Amoxicillin belongs to broad-spectrum penicillin antibiotics, mainly used to treat infections in various parts of the system caused by sensitive bacteria such as otitis media, tonsillitis, pneumonia, etc. Knee meniscus abrasion is not caused by bacterial infections, so Amoxicillin has no therapeutic effect on it.

In sports or life, if the knee appears severe pain or sudden pain and swelling, suspected knee meniscus wear, should go to the hospital in time, as soon as possible standardized treatment. All of the above drugs should be used reasonably under the guidance of a doctor, avoid self-medication.
