What is the macular center pucker?

The macular central depression is a physiologic depression in the central region of the macula. The macula is the posterior pole of the retina, there is a small shallow funnel-shaped concave area about 2mm in diameter, this is due to the area is rich in lutein and so named. In the center of the macula there is a small concave shape for the macular central depression, the macular area is usually without blood vessels, the color is darker under the examining glasses, due to the pigment epithelial cells contain more pigment. Under the examining glasses, there is a reflective spot in the macula centrale, which is called the centrale reflection. The macula centrale is the most visually sensitive part of the retina. The normal thickness of the retina in the macular sulcus is 173±13 μm. If there is a lesion, it may appear as macular edema, resulting in impaired vision. It is recommended to consult a doctor for further examination to identify the cause of the macular center depression abnormality and to provide targeted treatment.
