Cervical spondylosis do traction, why the more you do the more pain?

Cervical spondylosis, also known as cervical spine syndrome, is a general term for cervical osteoarthritis, proliferative cervicitis, cervical nerve root syndrome and cervical disc prolapse, which is a disorder based on degenerative pathological changes. It is a clinical syndrome with a series of dysfunctions mainly due to long-term strain and osteophytes of the cervical spine, or disc prolapse and ligament thickening, resulting in compression of the cervical spinal cord, nerve roots or vertebral artery. The manifestations are vertebral joint instability, loosening; nucleus pulposus protrusion or prolapse; bone spur formation; ligamentous hypertrophy and secondary spinal stenosis, etc., which stimulate or compress the adjacent nerve roots, spinal cord, vertebral artery and cervical sympathetic nerve and other tissues, causing a series of symptoms and signs. At present, cervical traction is the main means of symptom relief in the treatment of cervical spondylosis. Because effective traction can release the compression of nerve, blood vessel and spinal cord. Specifically, cervical traction mainly relieves muscle spasm in the neck, relieves pain symptoms, enlarges the vertebral space and intervertebral foramen, facilitates the resetting of the nucleus pulposus and fibrous ring tissue that have been protruded, relieves and relieves nerve root pressure and stimulation, promotes the absorption of nerve root edema, relieves the compression of the vertebral artery, promotes blood circulation, facilitates local bruising and swelling and the regression of hyperplasia, relaxes the adherent joint capsule, improves and restores the hook vertebral joint It also helps to adjust small joint misalignment and vertebral slippage, adjust and restore the internal and external balance of the cervical spine that has been damaged, and restore the normal function of the cervical spine. This therapy is suitable for most patients with cervical spondylosis and is more effective in early cases. It can also be applied to the health care treatment of cervical muscle strain, but it is not suitable for cervical spinal stenosis or spinal cord cervical patients with cervical posterior longitudinal ligament ossification. Blind traction often causes the following kinds of damage: 1, cervical muscle and ligament static injury, the clinical manifestation is similar to the fallen pillow; 2, nerve root injury, appearing upper limb numbness, pain; 3, vertebral small joint dysfunction, manifesting as neck activity limitation; 4, vertebral artery distortion, blood supply is reduced, manifesting as vertigo; 5, vertebral artery plaque detachment, easy to cause cavernous cerebral embolism 6, occipital nerve injury, manifesting as headache. Also found that some patients are not really unsuitable for traction, but the traction method and time is not well mastered, so that the more traction more pain. This kind of situation is mostly due to the patient’s traction weight is excessive, traction time is too long and cause muscle and ligament static injury, so there is increased neck pain; or cause the cervical vertebra attached ligament relaxation, reduce the stability of the cervical vertebrae, resulting in vertebral small joint dysfunction, so there is restricted neck movement; and if it causes the vertebral artery distortion, so that the blood supply is reduced, it is easy to appear vertigo symptoms. It should be reminded that traction is not a panacea, and it is not the only way to treat cervical spondylosis. When you suffer from cervical spine disease, you should first find a professional doctor to help you analyze which aspect of treatment you need and choose the best plan for yourself. If traction is necessary, it should be done only after understanding the precautions under the guidance of a doctor. Note before regular traction Before traction, first carry out a hot compress or a hot bath on the neck to relax the muscles and ligaments, and then do cervical traction, the therapeutic effect will be better. In the process of traction, you should not increase the weight at will, otherwise it is easy to aggravate the original symptoms or even appear new symptoms and other adverse reactions. If you are traction at home, when you feel that the original symptoms are aggravated, or the numbness of the limbs, neck pain and discomfort, you should stop or temporarily stop traction, rest for a few days and then carefully try traction from a small weight. If the above situation occurs again, you should stop traction and go to the hospital to see a doctor.
