Anorexia for a short period of time does not usually lead to abnormal development, but prolonged anorexia, which does not replenish the necessary nutrients required by the body, may lead to delayed growth and substandard parameters such as height, weight and head circumference, or in severe cases, anaemia, hypoglycaemia and short stature.
