Do I need to see a psychiatrist if my child has anorexia nervosa?

Need. Anorexia nervosa is a condition in which children do not want to eat on their own, making weight loss more pronounced and even causing severe malnutrition, and can be treated in psychiatric outpatient clinics. In some cases, the weight loss is significantly below normal standards, leading to changes in physiological functions, decreased function of various organs, water and electrolyte disorders, and the need for hospitalisation in severe life-threatening cases.
