An abnormal sign in the right lobe of the liver suggests that there may be an occupying condition in the liver. Usually, this occupancy may be benign or malignant. Benign conditions are usually seen in cysts of the liver, hemangiomas of the liver, and focal hyperplasia of the liver. Malignant liver lesions are usually seen in hepatocellular carcinoma and cholangiocarcinoma. Sometimes it is difficult to identify the nature of the lesion on plain scan, so an enhancement test can be done to help the differential diagnosis. Generally, benign lesions have no enhancement on enhancement; malignant lesions will have local enhancement on enhancement, which helps to differentiate the diagnosis.
