Colposcopy is a colposcopic examination that is used to screen for vaginitis, cervicitis, cervical erosion, and some lesions such as cervical polyps, in addition to being a specialized test for screening for cervical cancer.
Colposcopy is the use of a mirror with a magnification of 6-20 times, through a strong light source, can be observed whether there is the presence of formed lesions. Sometimes the lesions are hidden and cannot be observed directly by the naked eye.
In this case, acetic acid should be applied to the surface of the cervix during colposcopy, and the lesion will react with the acetic acid and turn white in color, which is called a positive vinegar-white test. The white part of the vinegar is the lesion, and the extent of the lesion can also be determined by the severity of the vinegar-white reaction, i.e., whether the color of the vinegar-white is light or strong.
Sexual intercourse should be prohibited for 72 hours, vaginal douching and medication for 48 hours, and vaginal operations such as gynecological examination for 24 hours before colposcopy.
