What ST-T abnormalities indicate

ST-T abnormalities are changes in the morphology and direction of the ST segments or T waves on an ECG exam that may be associated with heart disease. ST-T abnormality on ECG is an elevation or downward shift of the ST segment, which is normally located at the baseline level on the ECG, and/or T wave hypoplasia, inversion, or elevation due to a variety of reasons, and is considered to be related to premature repolarization syndrome, myocardial fibrosis, myocardial ischemia, myocardial necrosis, and hyperkalemia. Although there are some patients with ST-T abnormalities but completely normal cardiac structure and function, it is recommended to bring the ECG to a specialized hospital to determine whether further examination is needed according to the physician’s recommendation to exclude the possibility of organic heart disease.
