Resorcinol is used clinically to treat conditions such as keratosis pilaris and seborrheic dermatitis of the head, as well as for seborrheic alopecia and pemphigus vulgaris. Resorcinol is an over-the-counter dermatologic drug and is commonly used in lotion and ointment form. It has keratolytic and antipruritic properties and can be used in the treatment of eczema, ringworm, acne, and seborrheic dermatitis, as well as in exfoliation, trauma, and urethral cleansing. Adverse reactions such as headache, drowsiness, dyspnea, tachycardia, decreased blood pressure, and mucous edema may occur during use, and immediate medical attention should be sought if symptoms are severe. Resorcinol is easy to bring some skin irritation when used in excess, and patients with more sensitive skin will experience symptoms such as skin redness, so it is not recommended for sensitive skin.
