Pituitary tumor, also known as pituitary adenoma, is a kind of benign tumor. 2cm pituitary adenoma already belongs to the classification of macroadenoma, which can cause headache, nerve compression, endocrine disorders and other hazards. 1. Headache: early headache is caused by pulling the saddle diaphragm when the tumor grows upward. The headache is located in double temporal part, forehead, root of nose or back of eyeballs, etc. Late headache is caused by the increase of tumor affecting the dura mater of skull base, arterial ring, large blood vessels and other tissues. Tumor growth toward the third ventricle can cause diffuse headache. 2. Nerve compression: compression of optic nerve can lead to visual field disorder, visual acuity, optic papillae edema, etc.; compression of the motor nerve can lead to eyelid ptosis on one side of the patient, eye movement disorder; forward compression of the frontal lobe by the tumor can lead to psychiatric symptoms of the patient; backward compression of the tumor can lead to cerebral pedunculopathy, i.e., palsy of the motor nerve on one side of the brain and light hemiparesis on the opposite side of the brain. 3. Endocrine disorders: growth hormone adenoma can lead to gigantism and acromegaly; prolactin adenoma can lead to male sexual dysfunction and female lactational menopause; adrenocorticotropic hormone adenoma can lead to hypercortisolism and Cushing’s syndrome; follicle-stimulating hormone adenoma can lead to menstrual disorders in females, impotence in males, and shrinkage of testes. For patients diagnosed with pituitary tumor, they should immediately go to the relevant departments of regular hospitals for consultation and treatment under the guidance of professional physicians to avoid delaying the condition.
