Imaging examinations related to heel pain include X-ray and MRI. Most clinical examinations are performed by taking lateral radiographs of the heel bone, which can observe the presence of osteophytes in the posterior aspect of the heel bone, the Achilles tendon and the metatarsal fascia attachment area. In addition, since soft tissues cannot be visualized on normal X-rays, MRI is required for heel pain caused by soft tissue lesions around the heel bone to clarify the cause of the pain. Doctors need to combine the patient’s symptoms and signs for diagnosis and treatment, and imaging examinations only play an auxiliary role.
