How many degrees of mild rectal dilatation are there?

Mild rectal bulging, which may be mild or moderate, is determined primarily by the depth of the anterior rectal protrusion. Rectal bulge is a specific type of outlet obstructive constipation, which is most common in female groups with chronic increased abdominal pressure or those who have had multiple births. It is mainly due to the weakness of the anterior rectal wall, the rectovaginal septum and the posterior vaginal wall, which protrudes forward into the vaginal vault when stimulated by prolonged pressure. This pathologic change leads to a change in the direction of intra-abdominal pressure action during defecation, which ultimately induces symptoms such as difficult defecation and constipation. The classification of rectal dilatation is mainly based on the depth of rectal protrusion detected during the process of fecal imaging, and is mainly divided into mild, moderate and severe. In patients with mild rectal bulge, the depth of rectal proptosis ranges from 6 to 15 mm, moderate from 16 to 30 mm, and severe is more than 31 mm; therefore, mild rectal bulge may be mild or moderate. It is recommended that patients seek early medical examination to clarify the severity of the current lesion, and then target the conditioning treatment. The principle of treatment is to improve the patient’s clinical symptoms and quality of life.
