Rhinitis may cause enlarged adenoids and there is a relationship between the two.
Rhinitis is an inflammation of the mucous membrane of the nasal cavity caused by bacteria, viruses, allergens and so on, and the patient will have symptoms such as nasal congestion, itchy nose and runny nose. As the patient’s nasal mucosa is stimulated by inflammation, a large amount of secretions will be produced, and these secretions will be gradually discharged to the nasopharynx, resulting in long-term inflammatory stimulation of the lymphatic tissues in the nasopharynx, thus stimulating the adenoids to gradually proliferate and hypertrophy.
Secondly, the nasal mucosa and nasopharyngeal mucosa of rhinitis patients will be swollen and edematous, which will also lead to adenoid swelling and hypertrophy to a greater extent. At the same time, adenoid hypertrophy also affects the ventilation and drainage of the nasal cavity and sinuses, causing the accumulation of inflammatory secretions and further aggravating the symptoms of rhinitis.
Surgery should be considered for patients with rhinitis who have enlarged adenoids.
