Whether it is Hodgkin’s lymphoma or non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, the tests required for both are basically the same. First and foremost, it is important to obtain tumor tissue for pathological examination to clarify the diagnosis. There are various methods to obtain tumor tissues, the most common one is to excise intact superficial lymph nodes, but for some complicated conditions and difficult diagnosis, ultrasound or CT-guided deep lymph node aspiration, bronchoscopic biopsy, and exploratory surgery by dissection may be required. Secondly, before the initial treatment, in order to determine the severity of the patient’s condition and to determine whether the patient himself is in a position to receive treatment, the patient needs to undergo a series of tests, mainly including: blood routine, liver and kidney function, hepatitis markers, whole body CT examination, electrocardiogram, cardiac ultrasound, bone marrow aspiration and biopsy, etc. Some patients with possible central nervous system involvement also need to undergo lumbar puncture and send cerebrospinal fluid for examination. If economic conditions permit, PET/CT can be performed instead of whole-body CT. PET/CT can observe not only the size of the mass but also the activity level of the tumor, so that a more accurate and comprehensive judgment of the disease can be made during the process of disease staging and follow-up. Most patients have more concerns about bone marrow aspiration and biopsy, but in fact, the procedure of bone marrow examination is minimally invasive and does not affect daily life, and the results of bone marrow aspiration and biopsy are important in determining the stage of the disease. If the lymphoma does not involve the bone marrow, then there is usually no need for further review in future follow-ups unless the disease changes. During the course of treatment, in order to observe the efficacy of treatment and decide on further treatment options, a comprehensive evaluation is usually required once in 2-4 sessions, and the tests required for evaluation are roughly similar to those performed prior to initial treatment.
