What is “short nose” and how to treat it?

Generally speaking, the nose accounts for about one-third of the length of the face, which is about 6.0~75 cm. Short nose refers to the length or proportion of the nose is less than 6.0~75 cm, short nose is often accompanied by insufficient height, manifested by the collapse of the nasal bridge, nasal tip up, nostrils exposed and other problems, more serious short nose belongs to congenital deformity. The nasal bones that make up the nose are short, and the skin, cartilage, and mucous membrane are not long enough, making it difficult to lengthen them sufficiently. Because the tip of the nose is subjected to a very high force of compression by the implant, increasing the length of the nose under the condition that the tip is not injured and being able to maintain the length safely is the focus of short nose surgery, and the complexity of the operation makes nose lengthening one of the most difficult types of surgery in rhinoplasty. Currently, the commonly used short nose lengthening surgery is septal lengthening with rhinoplasty, which is a fully open procedure. First, the bridge of the nose is corrected with rib cartilage or silicone implants. Then, by supporting the posterior septal cartilage with its own helper cartilage or septal cartilage, the large wing cartilage is compulsorily moved forward, driving the adjacent soft tissues to expand at the same time and lengthening the nasal column and nose at the same time.
