What is the lethal triad of multiple injuries

The so-called lethal triad is also clinically known as the triad of death. It refers to hypothermia, acidosis, and coagulation dysfunction. Among the three factors, the most important one should be paid attention to is hypothermia. As a patient with multiple injuries, the first thing to do when entering the hospital is to maintain the patient’s body temperature, turn on the air conditioner as soon as possible in a cold room, cover the patient with a quilt, or even use a warming blanket or temperature control blanket to ensure that the patient’s body temperature is above 35°C. Patients with hypothermia, coagulation dysfunction will be minimized like a waterfall as long as it is below 35℃. Therefore, the coagulation function will be restored gradually after the body temperature rises to 35℃, which effectively ensures that the coagulation dysfunction does not occur rapidly. Hypothermia can also lead to acidosis. After the patient corrects the hypothermia, the acidosis may be resolved with the progress of resuscitation.
