Hypotension is defined as arterial blood pressure with a systolic pressure below 90 mm Hg and a diastolic pressure below 60 mm Hg. Medically, hypotension is divided into two categories: physiological and pathological. The so-called physiological hypotension means that the patient has no conscious symptoms, no abnormalities such as ischemia and hypoxia in various system organs, and no impact on their life expectancy, except for the arterial blood pressure which is lower than the above measured value. In contrast, pathological hypotension, i.e. hypotensive disease, is accompanied by general weakness, dizziness, easy fatigue, sweating, palpitations and other symptoms, in addition to arterial blood pressure lower than normal. These symptoms are more pronounced when the patient is standing or lying (or sitting or squatting) for a long time and turns to standing, and even faints. Hypotensive disease can be divided into acute and chronic. Acute hypotension is mostly seen in various kinds of shock and acute cardiovascular dysfunction. Chronic hypotension can be generally divided into three categories: 1. Somatic hypotension: generally considered to be related to genetics and physical weakness, mostly seen in women aged 20-50 years and the elderly, the mild can be no how symptoms, the heavy appear mental fatigue, dizziness, headache, and even fainting. It is more pronounced in summer when the temperature is higher. Hypotension is familial like hypertension, so if someone in your family has low blood pressure, chances are that your blood pressure is also low. 2, postural hypotension: postural hypotension is a sudden drop in blood pressure of more than 20 mmHg when the patient goes from a lying to a sitting or upright position, or when standing for a long time, and is accompanied by obvious symptoms, which include: dizziness, lightheadedness, blurred vision, weakness, nausea, cognitive dysfunction, palpitations, and neck and back pain. Postural hypotension is associated with a variety of diseases or medications, such as multisystem atrophy, diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, menopausal disorders, hemodialysis, post-surgical sequelae, anesthesia, antihypertensive drugs, diuretics, hypnotics, anti-psychotic depressants, or others such as: bedridden, frail elderly, but also often seen in normal people. 3, secondary hypotension: hypotension caused by certain diseases or drugs, such as spinal cavernous disease, rheumatic heart disease, antihypertensive drugs, antidepressants and chronic malnutrition, hemodialysis patients, etc.. In recent years, it is often found that some adolescents have persistently low blood pressure, due to the low blood pressure, the blood circulation function of these adolescents is also poor, often feel dizzy, weakness, shortness of breath, palpitations, chest tightness; women also more often occur irregular menstruation. Insomnia, dreaminess and deficiency can easily occur. When studying, it is difficult to concentrate, loves to wander, memory is poor and forgetful, often feel that the brain does not work well. These adolescents are also often accompanied by loss of appetite, mental fatigue, fear of cold and warmth, and lack of warmth in the hands and feet. Low blood pressure is more common in young women. If the arterial blood pressure is below normal without any conscious symptoms, the condition is not pathological. This is because physiological hypotension is common in young women, especially in those with long, lean bodies and in athletes and heavy workers who are often engaged in heavy exercise. The development of hypotension is often associated with high vagal tone. The prognosis for physiologic hypotension in young women is good. Therefore, young women with physiological hypotension do not need to worry or seek medical help. However, from a TCM point of view, people with insufficient qi and blood usually also have lower blood pressure. People with this constitution are easily tired, dizzy, walk with shortness of breath, and have poor endurance. If you go to a TCM clinic, the doctor will most likely give you some medication to regulate qi and blood, while Western doctors will tell you to exercise more and regulate your diet (such as drinking more jujube porridge, etc.), but the reason is actually the same, to improve the health quality of your body. It should be emphasized that what we often see in the clinic is somatic hypotension and postural hypotension without other causes, in fact, the above two kinds of hypotensive patients belong to normal people in principle, it is recommended that you follow a healthy lifestyle, exercise more and eat a reasonable diet, do not mind too much how low your blood pressure is, sometimes instead there will be no more symptoms, and the trouble will disappear.
