Myth 1: Mastocytosis can be cured by long-term oral medication. Mastocytosis is a group of diseases or disease processes that are chronic and related to endocrine imbalance. Medication can be administered for enlarged lumps and pain. However, mastocytosis is also a psychogenic disease that can be caused by many psychological disorders such as anxiety and depression. If the psychological effects are not removed, medication alone is useless. Myth 2: Mammary gland hyperplasia will not turn into cancer. In general, mastocytosis is a benign disease, so patients should not be too nervous, but they should not rest on their laurels. If the cause of mammary gland hyperplasia is not removed, the ducts and mammary epithelium may cause atypical hyperplasia after long-term stimulation, which may lead to the occurrence of breast cancer. Therefore, mastopexy needs to be followed up in hospital. Myth 3: Puncture biopsy will promote malignant transformation of breast hyperplasia and tumor metastasis. In fact, puncture biopsy is a quick, convenient and accurate method to determine the nature of the disease and will not cause metastasis or malignant transformation of benign tumors. A survey of 100,000 cases in the UK did not find a single case of malignancy or metastasis caused by puncture biopsy. In addition, once the nature of the disease is quickly determined, especially the tumor, its subsequent treatment (surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy) also allows the tumor no respite, bringing survival benefits to patients; on the contrary, not timely diagnosis, do not understand the nature of the disease, treatment is not timely, but will lead to the metastasis and recurrence of tumors. Myth 4: The more mammograms, the better. Mammogram is the best way to detect early breast cancer, but it is not necessary to repeatedly check it within a short period of time, especially during puberty and pregnancy and breastfeeding, which are sensitive to X-rays, and over-exposure will increase the incidence of breast cancer. Myth 5: Mastocytosis cannot be cured, but will be cured naturally after having children or menopause. Expert opinion: The recurrence of mastocytosis is due to incomplete treatment, insufficient courses of medication, stopping medication when the breast pain gets better, so that the treatment of hyperplasia is delayed. The hormone levels increase during pregnancy as the breasts increase, and mastocytosis will worsen, and after weaning, you will have to go through a process of changing hormone levels, which is a stimulus for the lobules and ducts of the breast. Therefore, it is completely wrong to say that mastocytosis will heal after having a child. Myth 6: Mammary gland hyperplasia does not need to be treated, it can completely heal itself. Expert opinion: There is a process of malignant transformation of normal breast epithelium, namely hyperplasia – atypical hyperplasia (precancerous lesions) – carcinoma in situ – infiltrating carcinoma. Breast diseases are divided into benign, junctional and malignant diseases. Benign ones include hyperplasia, fibroids, cysts, lipomas, papillomas, etc.; junctional ones are lobulated cystic sarcoma; malignant ones are lymphoma, breast cancer, breast metastatic cancer, etc. If hyperplasia is left unattended, benign diseases can also become malignant. In addition, environmental pollution, food additives, late marriage and childbirth, mental tension, stress and other factors have contributed to the high incidence of breast disease.
